STRIDING TOWARDS A SUICIDE-FREE AUSTRALIA: MCGRATH WOLLONGONG RUNNING FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LIFELINE SOUTH COAST AS CHARITY PARTNER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 22 MARCH 2024

Lifeline South Coast will be joining the McGrath Wollongong Running Festival on Sunday 2 June, 2024 to raise awareness for their vital crisis support and suicide prevention services. Participants of this year’s event have the opportunity to make their steps count towards something bigger by donating or raising funds to support suicide prevention in the local area.

Wollongong, NSW: The 2024 McGrath Wollongong Running Festival has announced its partnership with Lifeline South Coast, to support their ongoing work providing free 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Participants of this year's McGrath Wollongong Running Festival are given two avenues to support Lifeline South Coast. They can donate at the time of registration, or can create their own fundraising page to raise money in the lead up to the event. Lifeline South Coast volunteers will be at the event on Sunday 2 June to speak to the community to raise awareness about the vital, life-saving work they deliver to the region.

Lifeline South Coast CEO Renee Green says that she is looking forward to seeing the positive impact that the 2024 McGrath Wollongong Running Festival will have on the crisis support services for the local community.

“The energy and spirit of the event is truly contagious, and it's fantastic to see the community come together for such a fun, family focused day. The funds raised play a role in supporting the vital services provided by Lifeline South Coast including the 13 11 14 Crisis Support line and suicide prevention initiatives. Every step we take helps to reach our vision to create an Australia free of suicide,” Renee Green said.

Owner of the Wollongong Running Festival, Angella Saville, says that supporting the health and happiness of the community is at the heart of the McGrath Wollongong Running Festival’s values.

“Our partnership with Lifeline South Coast is important because it means that more people in our local community will have the support they need in times of crisis”, she said.

All donations raised by the McGrath Wollongong Running Festival will go directly to Lifeline South Coast, helping them answer more calls from people in crisis.
