COMMUNITY SPIRIT WANTED: MCGRATH WOLLONGONG RUNNING FESTIVAL CALLS FOR ENTHUSIASTIC VOLUNTEERS TO ENERGISE EVENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5 APRIL 2024

The McGrath Wollongong Running Festival has opened its 2024 volunteer recruitment program, with hopes of securing 80 volunteers to work behind the scenes on Sunday 2 June 2024. Organisers assure that there will be a suitable role for everyone.

Wollongong, NSW: The McGrath Wollongong Running Festival organisers are on the lookout for dedicated volunteers to help with the safe and smooth operation of Wollongong’s largest running event on Sunday 2 June.

The Wollongong Running Festival volunteer team has a strong reputation as the happiest and most supportive volunteers in the region. They largely contribute to both the high-energy event atmosphere and participant enjoyment on the day. The 2024 Volunteer Program gives participants the opportunity to give back to their community and make a meaningful contribution to a growing event.

Race Director James Tunbridge says that anyone is welcome to volunteer as long as they are enthusiastic and dedicated to making the day special for everyone.

"Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the event, bringing energy, positivity, and a can-do attitude that elevates the experience for everyone involved," he said.

Volunteer roles include, but are not limited to, marshalling and course safety, water distribution, race bib and medal distribution and runner guidance, support and encouragement. No prior experience is necessary, as guidance will be provided to ensure all volunteers feel confident and prepared for their roles.

2024 Wollongong Running Festival volunteer Lanie Jones says that the McGrath Wollongong Running Festival volunteer program gives her the opportunity to be involved in the fun and positive energy of the day, even though she is unable to run.

“I love the inclusivity of this volunteer program, it's for everyone, not just runners. I'm excited to get amongst the heart of the event, cheer people on and get to know the other volunteers,” Lanie said.

In addition to the satisfaction of making a meaningful contribution to the community, volunteers will receive a special edition cap as well as food and beverage during their shift.

Individuals interested in volunteering for the McGrath Wollongong Running Festival are encouraged to sign up through the event’s website where they can also find out more information.
