Our charity partner: Lifeline South Coast
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians under the age of 44 years – tragically we lose 9 people to suicide every day. In the last year, Lifeline South Coast has answered more than 25,000 calls on the 24-hour telephone crisis support service 13 11 14 and is working hard to ensure this vital service is available to our community when they need it most.
Lifeline South Coast is a local charity based in Wollongong, this means that the funds raised locally stay here in our community and are used to help local people talk about their problems and find ways to solve them. We are committed to building the resilience of our local community, which spans from Helensburgh to the Victorian border.
Mark Scott 5km
The SAVVY Mark Scott 5km event is dedicated to the 2011 Wollongong Running Festival winner Mark Scott who suffered a serious cycling accident in June 2011. In the past, $5 from each 5km registration went towards supporting the Scott family and Mark's recovery.
This year, the Scott family have requested that these funds go towards our charity partner Lifeline South Coast, to help them continue their vital crisis support services.
