OVER 2,000 RUNNERS SET TO RACE IN THE REGION'S LARGEST RUNNING EVENT THIS SUNDAY 2 JUNE 2024

Runners from across Australia are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for this Sunday’s McGrath Wollongong Running Festival, with the 2024 edition a sell-out.

Wollongong, NSW: The McGrath Wollongong Running Festival will see runners take on four distances on Sunday 2 June, with the kids 2km, 5km, 10km and half marathon events on offer, with more than 2,000 runners registered to take part.

The scenic, mixed terrain course is set along Wollongong’s coastline, with the start and finish lines located in Stuart Park. Throughout the course, runners will pass stunning ocean views of North and South beach, iconic Wollongong landmarks such as the Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse and the lush coastal nature reserve of Puckey's Estate.

In addition to the races, there will be a bustling event precinct for both runners and spectators to enjoy. An array of food and drink stalls, retail stalls, photo wall, free post-race massages and fun activities for the kids will be available.

Wollongong Olympic and Commonwealth Games athlete and event ambassador Madeline Heiner says she is excited to come back to her hometown to race alongside the Illawarra community.

“Nothing beats the feeling of cheering on other runners and crossing the finish line together. I know the atmosphere on Sunday is going to be high”, said Madeline Heiner.

Ultra marathon runner, humanitarian and event ambassador Pat Farmer is eager to put a spotlight on the wonderful work of Lifeline South Coast and the 24 hour crisis support services they provide for Australians.

“I hope I can inspire people in Wollongong to contribute to Lifeline South Coast and the vital suicide prevention services they provide. Together, we can achieve so much, simply by putting one foot in front of the other.”
